DESIGNING YOUR WALLS WITH THE RIGHT ART

ART FOR YOUR WALLS

Well-designed homes are full of art in each and every room- with bare walls just look like you moved in (am I right?). Professional designers can help you with the process of choosing art for your home but don't be mistaken, approaching this major undertaking is easier than you think. We can try to help with the process, whether it’s a large abstract painting or a bunch of small art pieces for a gallery wall have fun with it, you really can’t go wrong!

Bedroom art is something most people don’t consider but this vital piece can transform your bedroom into a space of dreams. Feature pieces shouldn't be overpowering in style or colour, like blue tones and natural colours and stay clear of any reds or oranges- these colours might keep you up all night. Soft abstracts are great in bedrooms. Before deciding, consider the colours of your bedding and pillows you’ll want a consistent colour palette and not something that screams “get me outta here”.

Bathroom art should be soothing and serene so pick works with muted tones and motifs that are peaceful. Small abstract pieces will work wonderful. An art piece that is 24 inches long fits perfectly over the toilet space and balances the wall where you have a vanity and toilet.

The kitchen is another room you wouldn't imagine needed some art pieces but think again. If you’re a chef like myself in the kitchen you should keep art at a distance so you don’t splatter grease all over the painting- cleaning the paints might deteriorate the artwork. Canvas paintings in the kitchen of fruit or landscapes will always fit in nicely. Also, hanging a framed canvas adjacent to a range hood is always visually appealing" but remember that range hoods are the main focus point of the kitchen so don’t choose bold art. Having calm tones and abstract paintings will complement any kitchen’s colour palette.

Moving to the living room is a place where paintings thrive and where designing a room gets much easier than the other spaces in your home. Here, you can enjoy a variety of subjects such as figurative works, still lifes and landscapes with an assortment of different mediums -- oils, watercolors, and photography in diverse frames of varied sizes.

The area above the sofa is a place where you can hang an extra large painting, and don’t be shy with adding pops of colour here. Explore textures with bold patterns or opt for neutral hues for a more relaxing feel.

The dining room is a space where you can get really loud and coulorful so choosing an art piece that is bold will definitely speak to your guests. Art should start a dialogue so make sure to choose a fun art piece to get the party started, lol. Here’s the time to take risks- opt for oversized paintings with loud colours, bold graphics and various mediums.

Another great space for displaying art is the office, in general it's a place where you should be motivated so inspirational pieces work best but so do large artworks of landscapes, seascapes, or abstracts with naturally occurring colours found in nature. You can keep the working environment formal by choosing black and white scenes.
